Logan Sargeant’s time at Williams is over.
The American has been ruled out of Formula 1 for the remainder of the 2024 season following his crash in pre-race practice for the Dutch Grand Prix. Sargeant was unable to take part in qualifying because his car could not be repaired in time following a crash in the third practice session.
Formula 2 driver Franco Colapinto will drive in place of Sargeant for the remainder of the season, starting with Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix.

Sargeant, 23, has scored just one point from 36 races at Williams. He made his F1 debut in 2023 and his only point score came at the United States Grand Prix in October. Sargeant officially finished 10th in that race but crossed the finish line in 12th place. He moved up the starting order after the race when second-placed Lewis Hamilton and sixth-placed Charles Leclerc were disqualified for failures in post-race inspection.
Sargeant finished last in the points standings among drivers who had participated in all 22 races last season.
This season, Sargeant’s best result in 14 races came at Silverstone, where he finished 11th. He missed the third race of the season when Alex Albon used his car following a crash in practice ahead of the Australian Grand Prix. As Williams did not have a spare chassis in Australia and Albon was the team’s best driver, Williams left Sargeant on the sidelines for the race.
It was an ominous sign for Sargeant’s future with the team and Williams had previously announced that Sargeant would not return in 2025 and that Carlos Sainz would join the team next season.
Following Sargeant’s accident in Holland, his immediate future with the team was thrown into doubt. Red Bull reserve driver Liam Lawson was even mentioned as a candidate to take over Sargeant’s car at Monza, but no agreement was reached.
Colapinto will be the first Argentine driver to compete in Formula 1 since 2001 when Sunday’s race gets underway.
