George Russell kept his promise to his home crowd by taking a brilliant pole position for the British Grand Prix.

The Englishman kept his cool in a wet and dry qualifying session at Silverstone to outpace team-mate Lewis Hamilton by 0.171 seconds as Mercedes occupied the front row.

McLaren’s Lando Norris completed a British hat-trick in front of an expected crowd of 160,000 for Sunday’s race.
