Former Wimbledon champion Garbiñe Muguruza married a fan she met in Central Park while playing in the US Open.
Muguruza officially announced her retirement from the sport in April, and the Spanish-Venezuelan ended her career with two Grand Slam titles.
She triumphed at the French Open in 2016, before claiming the Wimbledon women’s singles title by defeating Serena Williams in straight sets 7-5, 6-0 the following year.
Muguruza, who became world number one in 2017, met her future husband Arthur Borges by chance while competing at the US Open in 2021.
“My hotel was near Central Park and I was bored, so I thought I’d go for a walk,” Muguruza explained last year.

Muguruza, who retired from tennis this year, is best known for winning Wimbledon in 2017.
‘Suddenly, he turns around and says, “Good luck at the US Open.” I kept thinking, “Wow, he’s so handsome.”
Muguruza was eventually knocked out in the fourth round in New York, but began a romantic relationship with Borges, and the two took a famous selfie together.
The couple met while regularly walking through Central Park.
Borges, a businessman and model, proposed to Muguruza in May last year, and the tennis star shared the news on Instagram writing, “You had me at ‘Hello.'”
Born in Spain but having lived most of his life in Finland, Borges met his future wife while working in New York for Tom Ford.
The couple married in a ceremony in Marbella attended by 90 guests from around the world.
Speaking to the Spanish publication ¡Hola!, Muguruza revealed that her wedding had a Hollywood theme.
‘It’s totally straight out of a movie. I knew I would marry him even before he asked me,” Muguruza said. ‘When we met, it was love at first sight and we quickly realized we were an ideal couple.

‘I was inspired by the golden age of Hollywood, by those dresses worn by Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor, which are elegant, pretty and flattering.
‘Although he hadn’t told me anything, I imagined Arthur dressed like that, because I knew it was going to be traditional. It looked beautiful.
‘When I saw him at the altar I thought, “Oh, my man is so handsome!”‘
Muguruza’s former doubles partner Carla Suárez Navarro and coach Conchita Martínez were among the guests at the wedding.
Since retiring from tennis earlier this year, Muguruza was named tournament director for the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
