Trent Glover, speaking for the United States, said Duggan’s case had followed the “usual extradition process for the United States” in accordance with the bilateral extradition treaty.

He also noted his concern over the possibility of foreign interference.

“We have been told that the Australian Federal Police and the Attorney General’s Department do not consider him a risk,” Miralis said. “We are concerned that there may be some foreign interference that would encourage the minister of correctional services to take this dramatic course of action.”

Duggan used to operate Top Gun Australia, a pleasure flight business in Tasmania. Miralis said his client has a “long-standing relationship with Australia.”

The matter has been deferred until December 16, when Duggan will appear via video link.
