Tim Walz eschewed his usual “regular guy” image as he chatted with the son of billionaire Democratic donor George Soros in his posh New York City apartment.
Alex Soros, the 38-year-old son of the global philanthropist, was handed the reins of his father’s $25 billion empire in 2023 and pledged to continue funding left-wing causes.
Walz, who is arguably the least wealthy person ever to run for vice president, has already spent time with Soros and his wife, former Hillary Clinton adviser Huma Abedin, twice in the past month.
Soros, who has been friends with Kamala Harris in the past, couldn’t contain his excitement, writing in a social media post: “It’s a great honor to host Vice Presidential nominee @timwalz at my home in New York City.”
In August, Soros declared himself “Walzified, Walzpilized” after meeting Abedin (the ex-wife of disgraced Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner) at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

It remains unclear how much Soros has given to the Harris-Walz campaign, though his donations to the Biden-Harris 2020 campaign totaled more than $700,000, while he donated at least $5 million to Democrats overall.
Alexander was known in his youth as a rich kid from the Hamptons who threw lavish parties, chose models and befriended NBA legends.
His extravagant lifestyle and unbridled antics earned him a reputation as a “playboy” and even led to him once being described as an “embarrassment” within his famous family, in stark contrast to his father’s fierce dedication to personal privacy and his long-standing image as a serious and respected philanthropist and businessman.
So it came as a surprise to some when he was named successor and heir to his father’s $25 billion empire.
His rise to the head of George’s Open Society Foundations (OSF) was seen as something of a shock move, particularly as it saw him usurp his older – and far more staid – brother Jonathan in a corporate battle that many compared to the HBO series Succession.
But before the June 2023 announcement, Alex had been slowly working to transform his image from a playboy to a political power player, trading celebrity parties for encounters with high-powered people including Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden.
His political affiliations now appear to have led him to another major milestone: a romance with Huma Abedin, a longtime Hillary Clinton aide and friend, with whom he publicly debuted a relationship on Instagram Stories on Valentine’s Day 2023, when the pair enjoyed a date night in Paris.
The couple got engaged in July this year, with Soros writing: “This happened…we couldn’t be happier, more grateful or more in love.”
Soros and Abedin have collaborated in the past with high-profile Democrats like Kamala Harris.
Soros, 38, took over the reins of the $25 billion empire from his father George (pictured) in 2023 and was not shy about saying he wanted to continue funding left-wing causes.
Soros told the The Wall Street Journal Last year, she will expand on her father’s progressive goals but embrace different causes, including voting rights and abortion rights, as well as gender equality.
“I’m more of a politician,” Alex said, comparing himself to his father. He has already visited the White House several times and met with prominent Democrats.
Speaking about his goals, Alex said he was concerned about the possibility of Republican Donald Trump returning to the White House, suggesting the family will contribute heavily to the Democrats in the 2024 presidential election.
“As much as I would love to get money out of politics, as long as the other side is doing it, we’re going to have to do it too,” he said.
Soros’s nonprofit, the Open Society Foundation, already gives about $1.5 billion a year to groups that support human rights around the world and build democracies, while funding several universities.
And the family’s super PAC, Democracy PAC, has backed the election campaigns of district attorneys and other law enforcement officials seeking to reduce incarceration rates and perceived racial bias in the justice system.
Alex has said he doesn’t support all left-wing causes. Unlike many others on the left, Alex said he believes freedom of speech on campus has become too restricted.
“I have some differences with my generation when it comes to freedom of expression and other things,” he said.

Alex also frequently posts photographs of himself with Democratic politicians, including Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama and Senator Chuck Schumer, whom he called a “good friend.”
He has also appeared in White House records at least a dozen times since 2021.
Alex has urged Democrats to hone their message to broaden the party’s appeal, saying: ‘Our side has to be better at being more patriotic and inclusive.
‘Just because someone votes for Trump doesn’t mean they’re lost or racist.’
Speaking about Alex’s appointment, George said: “He earned it.”
George made billions as a hedge fund magnate in the UK. His Open Society Foundation and related nonprofits have donated more than $42 billion worldwide.
Soros has also invested millions of dollars in liberal prosecutors (either through direct donations or funneled through political action committees), effectively buying elections and leading to the installation of at least 75 prosecutors who support his leftist agenda.
He has spent at least $40 million on the project, wrote Matt Palumbo, author of The Man Behind the Curtain: Inside George Soros’ Secret Network, in the The New York Post – a minuscule sum for a man worth at least $32 billion.
Alex also frequently posts photos of himself with Democratic politicians, including Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama and Senator Chuck Schumer, whom he called a “good friend.”
This marks a change in tone from his father, who typically keeps a lower profile and exerts his influence through donations to liberal causes. He is pictured with Pelosi, left, and pictured with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttgieg, right.
The billionaire’s prosecutors have eliminated bail laws and chosen to forgo prosecuting crimes like theft and reckless driving, effectively giving criminals a free pass and leading to the collapse of law and order across the United States.
As a direct result, crime has skyrocketed in major cities overseen by Soros district attorneys. In 2021, under Kim Foxx, Chicago had the highest number of murders since 1994. And in Philadelphia, drug use and violent crime have seen an increase since Larry Krasner took office.
Trump frequently accuses George of bankrolling Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and suggests he is to blame for the case surrounding a $130,000 hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. Trump was ultimately convicted on all 34 charges.
George donated $1 million in 2021 to the left-wing political action committee Color of Change, which backed Bragg.
His son’s meeting with Minnesota governor and vice presidential candidate Walz is seen as a contrast as the campaign and Walz himself have sought to position him as a “regular citizen” who works on cars and loves football.
At 60, Walz is nearing retirement age, but he may be the least wealthy vice presidential candidate in modern history, despite having had plenty of opportunities to increase his net worth.
The bulk of Walz’s accumulated wealth comes almost entirely from state, military and federal government pensions, which will have been bolstered by taxpayer-funded contributions.
And while a lack of money is certainly no impediment to high office, some critics are now openly questioning whether former schoolteacher and football coach Walz is the right man to be within a heartbeat of the Oval Office.
