A former Premier League footballer has been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman in a London hotel.
The 24-year-old was arrested by police at the exclusive Corinthia Hotel, in Whitehall Place, Westminster, on October 9.
The former international footballer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is free on bail until mid-December, pending further investigations by the police.
It is understood the complainant reported the alleged attack at the reception of the five-star hotel early on Wednesday morning.
Sources told The Sun she had returned to the hotel with him after meeting him at a bar in central London.
The woman claims she was then attacked and raped by the footballer, who was arrested at the hotel and taken to Charing Cross police station.

Police questioned the suspect throughout the day and DNA samples, mugshots and fingerprints were taken.
Coroners are also investigating the £750-a-night room, while CCTV footage is analysed. He is understood to deny the rape.
A source said the sun: ‘He met the player in a bar and agreed to return to his hotel, where he had booked before.
‘She claims he then attacked and raped her.
“The woman went to the hotel reception and was said to be very distressed.
‘They called the police and officers arrived and arrested him at the hotel. He was then taken out to the astonishment of the guests and staff.’
The newspaper reports that the player was born abroad and played for several English clubs, as well as representing his own country. The source said he is a recognizable Premier League star.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: ‘A 24-year-old man was arrested at 9.53am on Wednesday 9 October at an address in Whitehall Place, SW1A, following an allegation of rape.
He is free on bail until mid-December.
‘A woman receives support from specially trained officers.
“The investigation is ongoing and inquiries are still being made.”
