The best game of Evans’ career came in 1972, when he scored two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown in a 45-21 rout of the New Orleans Saints.

But that season was cut short from the start when he broke his leg against the Denver Broncos.

Evans remained with the Giants through the 1973 season before leaving for Washington in 1974, which turned out to be the final season of his career.

“The hardest thing to realize when you exit the game is the fact that you won’t receive any more gifts.” he said in an interview with Newsday.

‘You will no longer receive checks from people you have never met because they know who you are. You don’t sign any autographs. Nobody loves you.

According to his obituary, Evans’ body was donated to researchers looking into the NFL’s concussion protocol.
