Alyssa Grenfell, 31, grew up in an ultra-strict household but fled Utah for New York in 2017 and has since focused on getting her body back after moving out in her late 20s.
Alyssa captioned the video: ‘Brainwashed Mormon moms?’
In it, she examines the rise of “traditional wives,” a term used to describe women who choose to live a traditional lifestyle that sees them spend their days cooking, cleaning, wearing modest clothing, and being submissive to their husbands.
Traditional wives have become increasingly visible in recent months, as many women boast of returning to traditional housewife roles, largely practiced in the 1950s and 1960s.
“I was trained to be a wife and a mother when I was about 12 years old,” Alyssa said at the beginning of the video.
She then explained that the women of the community were forced to learn how to become the perfect wife, starting with cooking.
Alyssa noted that as women, they were taught how to make spaghetti and told to serve it to the children.
She explained: ‘This is the basics of what I grew up with. It reminds me of the many times I attended activities for young women and the guys were playing basketball and having a great time and the young women were learning a skill like cooking or sewing.
“I have a very clear memory in which… We learned how to meal plan and made spaghetti and the kids were playing basketball.

‘Then, after we finished making the spaghetti, we went and took it to the young people, and the young people sat down and we gave them the spaghetti.
‘We were literally pantomiming and acting out our future roles – One was supposed to be out and about, but the other… ‘preparing ourselves to serve our future husbands.’
In addition to being taught to have a talent that could benefit the home, such as cooking, cleaning or sewing, women were reminded of the importance of abstinence until marriage.
One of the practices Alyssa and the other Mormon women were taught was known as the “licked muffin method.”
Alyssa noted that women who had “lost their virtue” – or had sex – were called “licked cakes” because “nobody” wanted them.
She added: “When a girl loses her virtue, it’s like licking a cake and no one wants you after you’ve been licked or after you’ve had sex with a man. You’re no longer marriage material.”
‘Another common case is chewed gum, which is more or less the same thing. Everyone gets a piece of gum and another one is chewed.
‘Chewed gum is offered to young women. And of course then the young people Women are disgusted and it’s supposed to symbolize that when you have sex you’re some kind of one-use person.

One of the traditional wives Alyssa mentioned was Nara, the wife of Mormon model Lucky Blue Smith, who frequently showcases her homemaker life online.
‘You can have sex with one person and if you have sex with anyone else after that or if you have premarital sex or sex with multiple partners, you are… contributing to the fact that you are damaged goods and your “Your virtue has disappeared.”

The term “traditional wife” was born in 2018 after the movement spread on social media, including Instagram and YouTube.
In the past, the former follower revealed her shocking theory about why there were so many Mormon influencers.
She explained that she believed the church, also known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was “sponsoring influential people through trips and meals” and added that the organization was “funneling money around the term Mormon.”
Alyssa has previously spoken openly about her improvement after leaving the church and the truth about “Mormon face.”
