Daniella Álvarez never doubted she would get back on the dance floor after she made the meticulous decision to have her left foot and part of her leg amputated.
On Sunday, the 32-year-old ex-Miss Colombia took to Instagram to share a video of dancing merengue with her brother, Ricky Álvarez.
“Adding a swing to life with my favorite partner @rickyalvareztv,” the 2011 election winner and TV personality wrote on her account @danielaalvareztv. “Difficulties don’t matter! We must be resilient in life !! ‘

The resident of Barranquilla, who represented the South American nation in the 2012 Miss Universe contest, shared her decision to have surgery in mid-June after doctors removed a mass in her abdomen.
The original surgery caused complications because the mass had wrapped around her main artery.
Doctors diagnosed her with ischemia, which cuts off blood flow to an organ or part of the body. In Álvarez’s case, there was a shortage of blood flowing to her leg.

After conversations with doctors and expert doctors, the UNICEF ambassador chose to remove the lower part of her left leg.
In one of her previous Instagram posts, Álvarez had promised her fans that she would dance again after five surgeries, the last one taking place on June 23.
Álvarez, who runs an online boutique, told her followers that ‘I made the decision to have a prosthesis that will allow me to dance champeta’ – a dance style native to Colombia’s Caribbean coastal region where she was born and raised.
A performance on Dancing With the Stars may not be out of reach for the one-time hopeful Miss Universe.
