A former scout leader from New Jersey was sentenced to 10 years in prison in the state after he had sexually attacked three boy scouts in the 1990s.

Stephen Corcoran, 51, of Morris Plains, pleaded guilty of four counts of assault in August 2018 for individual acts of sexual penetration between 1997 and 1999.

The suspect had a trusted leadership role in his community and chose to abuse his power by hurting innocent children, & # 39; said Morris County Public Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp. & # 39; The past can not be changed, but we hope this sentence closes the victims. & # 39;

Corcoran was accused of abuse of two scouts in 2012 and accused in 2013 of alleged abuse of all three.

Corcoran has been sentenced to seven years in prison after having been sentenced to 11 complaints in 2017 in a separate case about child pornography.

That complaint came after a witness said that he was 18 years old when Corcoran showed him the images of what he typified as middle-aged boys.

This last sentence of ten years will run concurrently with the seven-year verdict he was issued in 2017.

The case first came to light in 2011, when a former scout came forward who told the police that he had been sexually assaulted by Corcoran when he was young.

Upon further investigation it was revealed that two additional ex-scouts also said that they were sexually abused by Corcoran in the 1990s.

One of the victims told about a course abuse that took place over several years.

¿Every interaction he had with me and my family was for his ultimate goal of molesting me, "explained Christopher Malcolm, now 35, speaking to reporters in August 2017. ¿He was not there to be my friend. He was there for his own sexual desires ¿

The troops of ex-scout troops, who were cited in a lawsuit by 2012, claimed against the boy scouts that Corcoran began to take care of them for sexual abuse when they were 11 and 12 years old.

Years later he molested them at his home and on camping trips to locations with a reconnaissance camp in the province of Bergen.

In 2018, the former scouts closed the sexual assault case, trying to hold the organization responsible for allowing Corcoran as a troop leader.

The former scout lawyer, Bruce Nagel of Nagel Rice from Roseland, told NJ Advance Media last year that the amount of the settlements was confidential, but that his clients are very satisfied. were with the outcome.

One of those who was maltreated, Chris Malcolm, 37, told Fox 5 how he struggles to sleep, suffers from fear and anger fights as a result of five years and hundreds of incidents of sexual abuse committed by Scoutmaster Corcoran.

The victims later continued the Boy Scouts of America organization and said the abuse had a serious effect on their adult life.

As soon as everything around me becomes quiet, my mind fills itself with fear and thoughts from the past & # 39 ;, said Malcolm during a press conference. "He made it a point to integrate into my family, my friends to make it as normal as possible."

Corcoran really pointed out one of our trips to the other adults and said: & # 39; Hey, I'll take care of this child. You do not have to worry about him, "Malcolm said.

"The Boy Scouts of America are furious that there have been times when Scouts were abused and we sincerely apologize for the victims and their families", the BSA wrote in a statement. Nothing is more important than the safety of our youth members and we regard youth protection as our top priority. & # 39;
