Kevin McCarthy says Vice President Kamala Harris is not in charge of his presidential campaign and is getting significant help behind the scenes.
The disgraced former House speaker claims former President Barack Obama is secretly directing the effort to get Harris elected in November.
Speaking to Cats Roundtable on Sunday, McCarthy highlighted the fact that the vice president has hired people to work for her campaign who were once part of Obama’s team.
“We’re seeing the Obamas go from running the White House to running this campaign,” the California Republican said.
McCarthy, who was ousted from his post as House speaker last October, joins a chorus of Republicans who say Obama is running a shadow campaign and is actually pulling the strings.
“If you’re watching the campaign now, some of Obama’s key people, like David Plouffe and others, are working on the campaign now,” McCarthy told host John Catsimatidis on 770 WABC.

Harris took over as the de facto Democratic nominee last month after President Joe Biden ended his re-election campaign.
Many of Obama’s top advisers now play roles in Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign.
Plouffe was Obama’s campaign manager in 2008 and later one of his top White House advisers. He is currently Harris’s top campaign aide.
Stephanie Cutler, who served as Obama’s campaign manager in his 2012 re-election bid, has been hired as Harris’ senior adviser for strategic messaging.
And the vice president’s campaign manager is Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, who worked on both Obama and Biden’s presidential campaigns.
Democratic consultant Jennifer Palmieri has been hired to advise second gentleman Doug Emhoff. Palmieri previously served as Obama’s White House communications director. She also held that position during Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
And Eric Holder, who served as Obama’s attorney general, helped handle the investigation into Harris’s nomination. The vice president announced Tuesday that she has chosen Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to join her 2024 ticket.
Much of Obama’s former staff has been hired to work on Vice President Harris’ 2024 campaign, sparking speculation that the former president is in charge.
McCarthy attacked Harris.
“This is by far the most liberal formula in the history of American politics,” McCarthy said Sunday. “We don’t want to put San Francisco and Minnesota on the other side of the country.”
The former House speaker said it was a mistake to overlook Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, who is Jewish.
“Any political scientist would say it’s going to come down to Pennsylvania and Georgia,” McCarthy said of the 2024 election outcome.
“Why wouldn’t she choose Shapiro as vice president? Isn’t she going to stand up to her own party when they want to attack Israel?” she asked. “She wasn’t there when the prime minister of Israel came to speak before Congress. That’s her role and her responsibility as president of the Senate.”
