The boss of a young model who mysteriously disappeared 27 years ago has been arrested on unrelated charges as police re-examine her disappearance.

Revelle Balmain, 22, was working as a part-time escort when she was last seen in Kingsford, eastern Sydney, on November 5, 1994.

Zoran Stanojevic, 63, who once owned one of the escort services where she worked, was one of five men arrested Thursday in Sydney in connection with an alleged Serbian crime syndicate.

Police raided properties in Randwick, Maroubra and Surry Hills, where they found 102 cannabis plants and 8kg of dried cannabis – both valued at $400,000.

After her disappearance, Mrs Balmain’s makeup bag, keys and her shoe were found scattered near Ainslie Street.

She was reported missing later that evening and has not been seen or heard from since.

Despite extensive police investigations at the time and over the years, no one has been charged in connection with her disappearance, and a $1 million reward was announced in May for information about her fate.

A 1999 inquest found that Ms Balmain had died at the hands of one or more unknown persons and the case was referred to the Unsolved Homicide Unit.

On the night she disappeared, 22-year-old Stanojevic was supposed to meet with two of his friends at a hotel, but she never arrived.

There is no suggestion that Stanojevic was involved in her disappearance or suspected murder.

Forensic officers this week searched a room in the hotel, Ms Balmain’s apartment and the building where the escort service had left, hoping to discover what had happened to the young woman.
