Former Australian Idol judge Meghan Trainor has revealed how her time in Australia inspired her little boy’s name.

The Massachusetts-born pop star, 30, and her husband Daryl Sabara stayed in Australia for several months in 2023 while she filmed her role in the Channel Seven singing competition.

‘My baby was inside me when I was in Australia. His name is Barry Bruce and he is perfect. He’s my little Aussie baby and I’m so happy,” he told Nova’s Smallzy’s Surgery podcast this week.

Meghan said she took inspiration for her son’s name from an iconic animated film set in Australia: Finding Nemo.

Among the stars of the 2003 film is the late Australian actor Barry Humphries, who voiced the character Bruce the shark.

“I thought Bruce would be cute because the shark in Finding Nemo is Australian and the baby is too, so I thought it would be cute if he was Barry Bruce,” Megan enthused.

Meghan and her Spy Kids star husband, Daryl, welcomed their second son, Barry, on July 1, 2023, shortly after she returned to the United States.

The couple announced the news in an Instagram post at the time, revealing that she had welcomed Barry. exactly seven years after her and Daryl’s first date.

They are also the proud parents of three-year-old Riley.

Trainor was part of the judging panel for last year’s Australian Idol, alongside Kyle Sandilands, Amy Shark and Harry Connick Jr.

Neither she nor Harry returned for this year’s season and were replaced by series veteran Marcia Hines.

Amy Shark and Kyle Sandilands continued to serve as judges for the popular singing competition.
