Dane Swan has spoken out about how fatherhood forced him to reshape his wild ways.

In an interview with the Herald Sun on Thursday, the 37-year-old former Collingwood star admitted he was a changed man after welcoming his six-month-old son, Tate.

“It definitely changes you,” he told the publication.

“I do stupid things and try to make him laugh. That’s my role in the family to make him laugh.’

He added: “They’re like a plant for the first few months, you feed it and watch it grow.”

Dane shares Tate with longtime partner Taylor Wilson and paid tribute to the little boy on August 13 in a heartfelt Instagram post.

“Tate is six months today and I’m not sure if it was the fastest six months or the longest six months of my life, but I’ve loved every second with him… Well, almost every second of it… Well, definitely most seconds with him,” he wrote.

“The only good thing about our lockdown is spending every day with him watching him grow and finally realizing that I’ve been a fluent child all my life. I knew I had a skill somewhere and I know you can’t read this but happy half birthday [birthday] son’.

Dane also shared a series of adorable photos of himself with his young son, to show their close bond.

The retired AFL star was previously arrested in 2003 after a brawl in Melbourne’s Federation Square, and was later charged with 13 offences.

In 2012, he received a two-game internal suspension from Collingwood for violating team rules, including breaking a pledge to abstain from alcohol.

Dane was again plagued by scandal in 2018, when an explicit video of him leaked out, prompting a police investigation.

“It definitely changes you,” he told the publication. “I do stupid things and try to make him laugh. That’s my role in the family to make him laugh.”
