Ford Mustang recall: Nearly 19,000 cars recalled due to discovery of a manufacturing defect
- Ford has recalled thousands of its Mustangs
- A wiring fault in the trunk caused numerous problems
- The affected cars were manufactured between 2014 and 2017
Thousands of cars across Australia are facing a recall after a manufacturing error was found in their design.
Ford Australia recalled nearly 19,000 Ford Mustangs built between 2014 and 2017 after faulty wiring in the trunk caused operational errors with the rear view camera.
The defect was found in the trunk lid wiring harness, which had the ability to cause issues with the camera and other functions of the car.
The rear view cameras on select Mustangs were only working intermittently and also suffered from a loss of satellite reception.
Additional issues included the baggage compartment light and the release not working.
A total of 18,840 affected cars have been flagged in the recall and the government has compiled a list including the BV of each Mustang affected by the issue.
18,840 Ford Mustangs have been recalled in Australia due to a wiring fault in the car’s boot which led to a loss of satellite reception and boot complications.

The main problem described by the Department of Transportation was that the problem had the ability to cause the rear view camera to stop working intermittently.
A faulty rear view camera can cause death and destruction, the Department of Transportation said in a statement.
“If the rear view camera screen does not continuously display the rear view image while reversing, it could increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to anyone behind the vehicle,” it said. read in the statement.
Ford will also be reaching out directly to the owners of the recalled cars as they race to get the cars off the road.
The company will personally contact each driver and urge them to make an appointment at an Authorized Ford Dealer so that repairs can be performed free of charge.
