  • They met after a challenging year for Greene
  • The proposal came out of nowhere for the new mother

It can be a challenge trying to tell when GWS star Toby Greene is serious or not; ask his fiancée Georgia Stirton.

The couple were on holiday after the AFL season when the GWS Giants star romantically popped the question recently.

She decorated an oceanside terrace with hearts made of flower petals and got down on one knee with her son before revealing the ring.

The problem? Georgia didn’t know if it was authentic or another Greene invention.

“Apparently not a joke,” he posted once he realized the proposal was legitimate, along with a video of Greene asking the question.

“Just be thankful there’s no audio because all I said was ‘what the fuck’ 20 times,” Stirton added in another comment.

Greene began dating her glamorous former schoolmate in 2020 after a torrid 2019 that included a big final loss and the imprisonment of her estranged father.

Georgia also has an impressive sports resume, recruited by American college giants Gonzaga to play basketball in the NCAA tournament in 2015.

He studied his education degree at university while playing for the NCAA before returning to Australia in 2016.

While Greene can sometimes be the pantomime villain on the field, the pair’s big announcement proved that he is very much loved by his contemporaries off it.

‘Incredible. Congratulations guys,” Geelong champion Jeremy Cameron posted in his engagement video.

“Unreal guys,” Tim Taranto added with a heart emoji.

‘Let’s really go!’ his teammate Connor Idun posted.

“It’s about time,” added the GWS social media team.

And Collingwood star Tom Mitchell responded simply with a series of hearts.

The post was also liked by a host of AFL stars from GWS and across the league, with Brad Hill, Adam Treloar, Isaac Heeney and even NRL star Angus Crichton congratulating the couple.

Greene shared the news on social media at the time, calling her daughter Isla her “new best friend.”

“I’ll make a lot of phone calls to moms and friends who have had babies and go from there,” she said.

“I don’t think I’ve thought about it too much, I’m just taking it in. Once it comes, I’m sure it will be a big shock to the system.”

‘(Life) will be a little bit tougher but a lot of the guys have done it during my time in the AFL.

‘It’s something you have to deal with, you might lose a few hours of sleep here or there, but that’s okay.

‘I have done a complete preseason so the body is ready. It’s just a matter of managing it when necessary and I’m sure Georgia will be very accommodating too. She will be a super good mother.’
