New details have emerged after Brisbane star Ezra Mam allegedly failed a roadside drug test following a head-on car crash on Friday night.

Mam faces an investigation by the NRL’s integrity unit over Friday night’s crash in the Brisbane suburb of Bardon after he was detained by police and taken to hospital for further tests.

The 21-year-old had head scans in hospital after suffering a knock in the crash, but was later discharged and the injury is not believed to be serious.

The injuries to the occupants of the other vehicle are also not serious.

But the blow to Mom’s head may be just the beginning of the five-eighth’s problems.

The Broncos star underwent initial roadside drug and alcohol testing, which reportedly returned a positive result for drugs.

He was then ordered to take a second drug test using blood samples, while police awaited the results. Mom hasn’t been charged yet.

It has now also been discovered that Mom was allegedly driving the vehicle without a license at the time of the accident.

courier mail reports that the incident has jeopardized Mam’s $4 million contract with the Broncos.

The Broncos hierarchy will consider a variety of disciplinary measures, including game suspensions, fines, counseling and education.

“The man was subjected to a roadside drug test where he reportedly returned a positive result,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“They detained him for further tests which required blood to be drawn at the hospital.

‘After this, the sample is sent for analysis. This test may take several weeks.

‘Testing is carried out independently of the QPS (Queensland Police Service). The QPS cannot comment further while we wait for the results.

“It will be alleged that the 21-year-old man did not have a license at the time of the incident.”

The Broncos informed the NRL’s integrity unit immediately on Friday night after their welfare officers attended the scene of the accident.

“Broncos player Ezra Mam was involved in a road traffic accident last night in Brisbane,” the Broncos said in a statement.

“He was taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries and was discharged last night.

‘The Broncos reported the matter to the NRL Integrity Unit last night. No further comments will be made on the matter at this time.”

It’s the second drama to dog Mam since the end of Brisbane’s horror season, after the NRL investigated an interaction between him, Reece Walsh and a fan in Bali last month.

It had already been a turbulent offseason for the Broncos, who parted ways with coach Kevin Walters last month after their collapse from the 2023 grand final to 12th place this year.

Michael Maguire has since been named the club’s new manager and could have dispensed with the latest issue.

“I found out about (Mom’s) incident late (Friday night),” Maguire said.

‘I don’t want to comment on Ezra because we have to analyze what has happened and understand the situation.

“In any organization, that (good behavior) is part of what builds the culture.”

Roadside drug testing has become a real problem for the NRL this season.

Cronulla playmaker Braydon Trindall tested positive for driving with drugs and alcohol in his system in May and missed five games.

Canterbury midfielder Josh Addo-Carr also missed the Bulldogs’ final knockout loss to Manly due to a positive drugs test along the way.

Addo-Carr remains on the Belmore sideline following the trial and is expected to be released by the club with an NRL-imposed suspension still hanging over his head.
