“I wasted almost everything. We’ve had seven homes throughout my football career. I lost everything because I kicked.

‘Clap. Stupid. Because I had money from the age of 17. A lot of money. Everyone worked hard for their money. I didn’t have to work hard. I just played soccer. I just thought the money would be easy. Winning the lottery – easy money. Let’s spend it.

Fevola ended up appearing on reality TV show I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here in a bid to change his public image, with the 42-year-old widely considered an ‘idiot’ by Australia .

“You make money, you lose everything, and you end up on a stupid show like, ‘Celebrity, get me out of here’. That’s what happens,” he said.

Fevola’s wife Alex recently opened up about the devastating effect his gambling addiction had on their marriage and how she found out they were out of money.

“Salary was not going into the account,” she said via Fox Sports.

‘I was like, ‘This is so strange.’ What is going on?’ And I couldn’t reach anyone, no one answered my calls.

“Finally someone answered my call and said ‘yes, there was no salary’ and that was the equivalent of that whole year’s salary.”

Fevola and his wife had a rocky relationship. They briefly separated in 2010 after she found out about her affair with Australian model Lara Worthington, formerly known as Lara Bingle. They divorced in 2014 due to his gambling issues, but got back together shortly after their separation.

“Actually, I was just in disbelief. I couldn’t believe all of this would happen and no one would tell me about it,” she added.

“The biggest shock in all of this was that it all happened behind the scenes, and no one thought it important to tell me that was what was happening.

“I had to go into recovery mode. We had to leave where we lived. We had just bought a house. We had to sell everything.
