Bradman Best played his part in a famous win for New South Wales against Queensland on Wednesday, but he certainly emerged battle-scarred after the gruelling contest at Suncorp Stadium.
Best, 22, scored the opening try for the Blues, latching on to Jarome Luai’s line-breaking run to score in the left corner for the visitors, who secured only their third win on enemy soil in their history.
The Newcastle Knights player, in his first Origin game, proved he is more than worthy of his place on the big stage.
The centre, who is dating Kayla Fenech, the daughter of boxing legend Jeff, showed incredible fighting spirit throughout the contest and took his fair share of punches after the final whistle blew.
The young gunman was sporting a torn and bloodied lip but was apparently unfazed when Nine asked him about it.
“It was one of the toughest matches I’ve ever played,” he said. “Coming here is very good to get the win.”
‘I haven’t seen it (the lip injury), but I’ve definitely felt it.
“I wasn’t worried, we knew what we had to do. We just had to create pressure and we did that to get the win.
