Doubts are growing over St Kilda veteran Brad Crouch’s AFL future after a bizarre message claimed the midfielder has already found a new job in what fans are calling “the best retirement announcement ever”.

The 30-year-old, who played just one senior game in the 2024 season, has been battling a knee injury that could end his 161-game career.

While there has been no official announcement from St Kilda, Crouch appears to have found a new job: the company in question announced his retirement in a statement confirming his recruitment.

“We are delighted to welcome Brad Crouch to the Melbourne North West Industrial and Logistics team in an executive role,” reads the website of investment management firm Colliers, where the Saints player is being welcomed as a new executive.

Having enjoyed a stellar career playing AFL for the Adelaide and St Kilda football clubs, Brad has always had a keen interest in property and is currently devoting some of his spare time to expanding his skills in the commercial property sector in preparation for his new role.

‘Brad is a valuable addition to Industrial & Logistics and we look forward to welcoming him to the Northwest team.’

Football fans have had a lot of fun with the unorthodox way the news was broken.

‘Best retirement announcement ever made by Brad Crouch!’ posted one fan.

“I’m not an expert on contracts, but it would be crazy to ask you to pay for a job when you’ve already started a new one,” another replied.

However, former Geelong player and now broadcaster Josh Jenkins has questioned the news of Crouch’s retirement, posting: “Brad Crouch is far from done with his AFL career. He only started working over the summer period. He is working towards resuming AFL football.”

On Tuesday, 7News reporter Mitch Cleary reposted the company’s announcement and wrote that Crouch has likely retired from the sport.

“Brad Crouch has probably played his last AFL game,” Cleary posted on X.

‘He has been dealing with a degenerative knee injury and I understand there are ongoing discussions with the Saints about a potential payout on his 2025 contract.’

‘It also seems that he has started a new job.’

Crouch made his debut for Adelaide in 2013 and played 95 games for the Crows, scoring 34 goals before switching to St Kilda for the 2021 season.

He racked up 66 games and 22 majors for the Saints, where he won the Ian Steward Medal in 2022.
