AFL football great Nathan Brown has opened up about the bizarre way he ended up owing $18,000 in parking fines.

Brown, who currently works as a commentator for Triple M and one of the presenters of Nine’s Sunday Footy Show, revealed that he recently received a worrying phone call from a sheriff calling about a car linked to his company.

“She says you have some outstanding warrants,” Brown explained in triple-m.

‘I said because it’s part of the company when you nominate a driver, I returned it. She said: I see you returned it… but it was too late and you’ve done it several times and we’re going to put the clamps on your car.

“He said you have other fines, not just this one, that date back to 2013.

‘She gave me the obligation numbers and everything. ‘She amounted to $18,000.’

Brown explained that he had paid the original fine and is now putting together a plan to pay the remainder of the penalties.

—So I got angry. It goes back a long time and you’re ambivalent about a lot of things and I thought I’d deal with that later. And then it never comes,” she said.

Earlier this year, Brown stepped into the ring for his first professional boxing fight against fellow football commentator and Nine co-presenter Kane Cornes and triumphed.

Cornes, who appeared to be the fitter of the pair, was the busier man when they fought on the undercard of The Gathering in Adelaide just before the Gather Round, but Brown landed the bigger blows.

After the fight, Brown was asked how he felt about shutting down his controversial opponent, but instead he paid tribute to Cornes.

“It’s a good effort to get here,” Brown said.

“We haven’t done much boxing, but Kane’s courage to come out here… The thing about Kane is that he will give it to the media, but he also accepts it.”

‘There are a lot of guys in the media who don’t like to give things the way he does, they’re afraid to do it. I take my hat off too.’

Cornes was equally classy in defeat and credited Brown’s skill.

“I’m fine, I’m relieved it’s over,” he said. ‘It has been a really challenging experience. I’ve really enjoyed it. My coaches have been phenomenal. I never put on boxing gloves until eight weeks ago, so to be able to get in and still be standing is a win.

“It’s the most nervous and anxious I’ve ever been. I have a lot of respect for anyone who steps into the ring, they are so athletic, their stamina is incredible, their courage and their toughness, the sport ticks all the boxes.

‘I really want to give credit to my opponent, he was phenomenal. Browny has real power and he is an incredible athlete, a brilliant footballer and, holy shit, he was a good fighter.
