Football fans hail Colombia’s ‘passion’ to roar their national anthem at the Women’s World Cup – and say it puts England and US stars to shame
Football fans hailed Colombia’s passion at the Women’s World Cup as the players took to the pitch to sing their national anthem ahead of their clash against England.
Sarina Wiegman’s side will face Colombia in the quarter-finals, knowing that a victory will put them in the last four.
Colombia have caught the eye, but it’s not because of their football on the pitch.
Taking to Twitter, users praised the passion shown during the national anthems.
One user said: “I mean if the passion during the anthem show means something Colombia wins.”

The winner of the tie will join Australia in the semi-finals of the tournament
‘I can’t help but think that if the line ‘Long to reign over us’ was ‘So good, so good, so good’, we’d like to sing that a little more. Come on beauties.
Another football fan followed the sentiment, saying Colombia would win “hands down” if a match was decided based on the national anthems.
“If a match was decided on the interpretation of the team’s national anthem, Colombia would win hands down,” they wrote.
Another Twitter account slammed England for showing a lack of passion during their national anthem, saying: Colombia, showing how to sing the national anthem
“Why do some members of the England team try not to sing the national anthem but say it anyway, I guess you are proud to represent England”.
This was backed up by user Six9Giant, who said: ‘The Lionesses of England cannot be heard or seen singing our national anthem with love or passion. Then the Colombian team and their supporters can be heard singing their anthem with bravery and love”.
The Colombian players were again praised for ‘broadcasting’ their anthem as james_capie wrote: ‘Colombian women speechless singing their anthem with their heads thrown back just screaming and lost in it, you love to see it. Simply fantastic.’
The Lionesses hope they can prove their passion on the pitch as they seek World Cup glory.
Elsewhere, co-hosts Australia advanced to the semi-finals after a penalty shoot-out win over France.
