Beloved California food critics Allan Borgen and Isabelle Busse died after colliding head-on with a truck in a devastating car accident Saturday while the couple was traveling in Missouri.

Borgen, 75, a longtime Inland Empire restaurant critic who for decades hosted radio and television shows devoted to food, was traveling with his co-host and ‘Let’s Dine Out’ partner Busse, 54, when were killed on Interstate 44, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

They said a truck crossed into oncoming traffic and hit their car head-on.

According Los Angeles Times, Borgen, who was behind the wheel, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Busse was taken to hospital, where she later died.

The couple, who lived in Redland, were known for their love of food. Together, they hosted ‘Let’s Dine Out’ weekly on KCAA.

KVCR Public Media, the Southern California media outlet where Borgen worked for 32 years, confirmed his death on Monday.

“All of us at KCAA are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our friends and fellow broadcasters,” KCAA General Manager Mark Westwood and CEO Fred Lundgren wrote on Facebook. ‘Saturdays at 4pm will never be the same without ‘Let’s Dine Out.’ We will miss them very much.”

They also hosted monthly ‘Grub Club’ dinners to connect with other food fans at local restaurants, which is where they allegedly met, according to the New York Post.

Borgen, a retired social worker, began working as a food critic in the 1990s. He was known for his sense of humor and his collection of Hawaiian shirts.

Speaking to Redland Daily Facts, Busse’s old friend said: ‘She always had a very funny laugh; she was always up for anything,’ and she added that ‘Allan was just a sweet man, he always adored her.’
