A surprising twist has emerged in the controversy between Taylor Swift and Dave Grohl: Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear was spotted at one of Swift’s concerts in London.
Both Swift and the Foo Fighters performed in London over the weekend, with Swift singing at a trio of sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium and the Foo Fighters playing at London Stadium.
After Saturday’s Foo Fighters show, where Grohl hinted that Swift doesn’t sing live, Smear, 64 (born Georg Albert Ruthenberg), was spotted at Swift’s Sunday show.
Smear was seen on actress Salma Hayek’s Instagram story at the concert, alongside fashion designer Stella McCartney.
While the guitarist does not have a verified social media account, Hayek tagged Foo Fighters’ Instagram in the post.

While neither Swift nor Grohl have spoken publicly about the comments, Swift apparently acknowledged it on Sunday.
The controversy began on Saturday when Grohl told the crowd at the London Stadium: “Earlier we were joking about Taylor Swift’s tour.” I know she’s on her Eras Tour.’
The crowd began booing at the mere mention of Swift, as Grohl added, “I’m telling you, man, you don’t want to talk.”I suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift.’
‘That’s why we like to call our tour the Tour of Mistakes. We’ve had more than a few eras and more than a few damn mistakes too. Just a couple. That’s because we actually play live. That?’ Grohl said.
‘Just say. You guys like live rock ‘n’ roll music, right? You’ve come to the right fucking place!’ Grohl said before continuing with the band’s set.
During Swift’s Sunday performance, she seemingly addressed Grohl’s comments by introducing her band before the three-and-a-half-hour set.
‘What you just did is an unforgettable moment not only in my life, but in each of the members of our team. The band that will be playing live for you for three and a half hours tonight,” Swift said, without specifically mentioning Grohl.
‘They deserve it so much and so do all my fellow artists, and you gave it to us so generously. We will never forget it,” he added.

Many were surprised by Grohl’s comments, as he and Swift seemed to be on good terms in the past.
Grohl was performing at the Cannes Lion Festival in 2016 when he told a story about how Taylor Swift saved him from embarrassment in front of Paul McCartney.
Grohl said he was excited about McCartney’s reunion with Swift, and after McCartney finished playing a song, everyone turned to Grohl to play.
“It was like one of those nightmares where you’re running backwards and you’re always late for whatever you have to go to,” Grohl said.
“All of a sudden, Taylor Swift stands up and says, ‘I’ll play a song,’ and I’m like, ‘Ugh, thank God Taylor Swift is here.'” Like fucking with Batman when you need to.
Both Swift and Grohl performed the song Best of You by Foo Fighters, with Grohl adding: “As if I wasn’t high enough, that shit launched me into outer space.
Grohl also praised Swift in a Rolling Stone 2021 piece for her to re-record her original albums after being denied the chance to get her master recordings back.
‘Like, fuck yeah, girl. Hell hath no fury. Now I’m afraid of him! I would be so nerdy and interested. I think it’s really fun,” Grohl said at the time.
Many were surprised by Grohl’s comments (seen in London on Thursday with Pat Smear to his right), as he and Swift seemed to be on good terms in the past.

It remains to be seen if Grohl will clarify his comments or apologize, or if Swift will elaborate on her comments.
Swift’s fans, nicknamed Swifties, were quite unhappy with Grohl following the comments in London.
Some fans suggested that Grohl’s attack was fueled in part by the abuse his daughter faced from Swifties, Taylor Swift’s fans.
Violet Grohl criticized Swift for flying between concert stops on a private jet.
