- The main event was delayed due to the fighters entering the ring after 1:30am
- Mayweather laughed and joked his way through most of a farcical match
- The exhibition fight was finally stopped at the first sign of Deji’s distress
A weekend of practice matches ended in something of a farce as Floyd Mayweather danced and laughed his way through most of his showdown with Deji before claiming victory in the sixth round.
On Saturday night, boxing fans were treated to a taste of nostalgia as Ricky Hatton entered the ring for the last time, with both the Briton and his legendary opponent, Marco Antonio Barrera, having their hands up as the eight-round exhibition went all the way.
Mayweather’s latest match-up was less poetic, as the 50-0 all-time great shared the ring with 1-3 YouTuber Deji – real name Oladeji Olatunji – with the match being canceled at the first sign of his opponent’s distress at the Coca-Cola club. Cola Arena in Dubai.

The pair embraced after the hiatus, which was considered much too early by most
The wait for the fight ended up being longer than the fight itself, with Mayweather and Deji making their rounds in front of an irritated Dubai crowd shortly after 1.30am, after a dispute reportedly over the size of their gloves.
A man named Jake Paul, who had furiously clashed ringside with Tommy Fury and his father John beforehand, took to social media to insist that Mayweather refused to fight while he was in attendance.
In a sign of intent that rather summed up the clash, Deji outlined his less-than-lofty ambitions prior to the fight, insisting that his goal was to deal a single blow to the 45-year-old veteran.
The 25-year-old did indeed manage to pack a hefty punch, one that left a mark under the legendary figure’s left eye.
Mayweather, whose estate was secured well before his retirement in 2017, which saw professional football win 15 world titles in five weight divisions following his win over Conor McGregor, added another reported £28million to his bank account for his troubles.

The 45-year-old indicated his intent from the first second, holding his hands firmly by his side, immediately toying with the YouTuber, not considering anything that could potentially come back.
The huge difference in class between the two was immediately apparent, with Mayweather simply feinting and moving in and out of reach at his leisure, Deji a seated duck waiting for his final fait.
The crowd in Dubai clearly sided with the YouTuber and Mayweather also joined the chorus of ‘come on Deji’ during a one-sided but ultimately farcical second round.
Deji, 25, managed to land a shot of note in the fourth, crawling through Mayweather’s guard, with evidence left in the form of a mark under his left eye. In fact, in a brief role reversal, Mayweather required treatment while Deji did pushups between rounds.
Deji insisted before the fight that his sole purpose was to throw a punch, which the YouTuber did
Indeed, the match was one that Mayweather didn’t take seriously at all, but it’s a moment that will rightfully live in Deji’s memory for the rest of his life.
However, Mayweather decided to go to work in the sixth and the referee quickly called the fight to a stop before the YouTuber was injured.
Mayweather said after the fight that he was glad Deji had landed his shot. “I’m glad he fired a good shot – this is part of entertainment,” he said. “You’re a great fighter and competitor…keep building.”
Deji meanwhile called out a few pop stars. ‘I wouldn’t mind fighting Justin Bieber’ [or] Liam Payne. Anyone who really wants it, I want all the smoke.’
Earlier in the evening, Tommy Fury went the full six rounds in his exhibition game against Rolly Lambert after his professional match against Paul Bamba was called off at the last minute.
