Flames Defenseman Crushes Sharks Forward With Big Open Ice Hit

During Tuesday’s second period of the Calgary Flames and Anaheim Ducks contest, the Flames lost 23-year-old forward Connor Zary for the remainder of the game after a knee-to-knee hit by Drew Helleson.

After a review, the referees assessed a five-minute major foul and game misconduct for kneeling.

However, the teams played four on four when Jakob Pelletier received a two-minute tough call while defending his fallen teammate.

With one second remaining on Pelletier’s penalty, the Ducks tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by Alex Killorn.

There is no information on the status of Zary’s injury, but Calgary will be without its third-leading scorer, who has ten goals and 22 points in 39 games.
