In a sample clip obtained by People he revealed that he and Joanna were trying to “unpack” his issues after Fixer Upper ended in 2018 and they took a year off.

Oprah brought up the topic by pointing out that “if you don’t know who you are when the fame story hits, you lose yourself.”

She asked her guests, “Did you all start to feel that or did you know you were under house arrest before fame hit?”

The talk show icon elaborated: ‘You were so grounded, had your own life, the four kids and you took your time because you wanted to reground?’

Chip replied, “I want to speak for Jo because she would never say things like this, but she’s so incredibly wise, so incredibly grounded.”

The star said sweetly, “All the stuff you just described is who Joanna is, and to be honest I thought I was too.”

He confessed, that “the truth for Jo and I was that it wasn’t bad for her, but for me to be famous I lost a part of myself, that was real, it was sad.”

Chip continued, “And I’d say it took me a year or two while I was still filming to try and understand exactly what I was losing.”

He noted that “when that year was off I really think Jo and I were able to kind of plop down and really try a little bit to unpack what it was about fame that seemed so incompatible with my personality.”
