While Purdy recorded just 11 rushing yards in five total contests, he kept numerous plays alive with his legs before making hits down the field, displaying an elusiveness that coach Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers have become accustomed to.

“I think he started doing it more last year,” Shanahan said of Purdy’s wrestling ability. “He’s done it a lot this year. It’s something he did a lot in college. I think Brock is just confident about when to hold on and try to make the play work and when to break and buy time and try to make a play, making people open later than planned or trying to get out with your legs.

“And he’s done a great job of that these last two weeks. If he hadn’t done that in the playoffs last year, I don’t think we would have gotten to the Super Bowl. I think he did that then, too. And I love having that advantage of our offense. He’s done a great job with that.”

In addition to making and extending plays with his legs, Purdy showed off his impressive talent with his arm, connecting on multiple deep hits of over 38 air yards to wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Jauan Jennings.

“For this game there were a couple of plays where their safeties were short and when we had guys going deep with (WR) Deebo and JJ (Jennings),” Purdy said. “For me, we talked about it on the sideline and it was a little aggressive to see that and let things rip and trust those guys to step up and make plays and that’s what they did. It was nice to be able to connect on those routes. deeper and things like that and record it and give us all some confidence to move forward with the deep ball.”

Purdy did it all in Sunday’s win and continues to prove that he is more than just a product of the 49ers system.

It also has the statistics and records to back it up.
