Five people were killed and another was injured Thursday at a grocery store in the resort city of Acapulco.

The gunmen arrived at the Dalia craft market around 5:30 p.m. and opened fire.

Four men and one woman were pronounced dead at the scene, and one man was rushed to a local hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound.

The Guerrero State Attorney General’s Office said in a statement that it was investigating the shooting.

As of Friday morning, no arrests had been reported.

In another incident on Thursday, the bodies of four young men were found dead on a football field, while two others were found near a high school. All six victims died from gunshots.

The murders followed the gruesome discovery on Monday of 10 bodies that were abandoned on the streets of Acapulco.

Six bodies were scattered along an avenue near a market on Monday night after they were thrown from a vehicle, according to local media reports.

A shooting in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood left three people dead while another person was found dead in the tourist town.

According to the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, in the state of Guerrero, on the Pacific coast, at least 598 homicides have been recorded in the first four months of 2024, an average of 3.6 per day.

The state, which has been plagued by warring drug cartels, had 1,890 murders in 2023.

Guerrero’s criminal states have recorded at least 68 murders in May, including 24 this week.

Acapulco, one of the state’s 50 municipalities and once a favorite landing spot for Hollywood’s elite, has reported 41 homicides this month.

The decapitated heads of Aníbal Zúñiga, candidate for councilor of the Guerrero city of Coyuca de Benítez, and his wife, Rubí Bravo, were found on a street in the city last Thursday.

The rest of the bodies were abandoned in their truck.
