A five-month-old girl has died after drinking turtle blood to protect her from Covid-19.
Local media in the Dominican Republic report that her seven-year-old sister and her parents have been hospitalized after drinking animal blood as part of a drink recommended to them by a Haitian medicine man.
According to reports, the baby was already dead by the time she arrived at Comendador Rosa Duarte Hospital.

Her family members are said to be “serious but stable.”
Hospital director Dahiana Volquez was quoted as saying, “These kinds of cases are caused by people who think that these drinks may have healing properties, but could eventually be fatal.”
Comendador is a municipality in the province of Elias Pina on the border of the Dominican Republic with Haiti.
The girl is said to have died on Sunday, although details were not released until yesterday / Tuesday.

In August 2012, four children from the same family were found in Haiti after being treated by a doctor who claimed to be able to cure them from a mysterious illness.
An official named Wilfrid Brisson from the southern city of Marbial was quoted at the time, saying that the wizard and his brother repeatedly beat the children after convincing the victims’ mother that they were possessed by a demon and that they could take their souls from the devil liberate.
