Five kidnapped at gunpoint before being forced to withdraw cash during crime wave in Washington DC

Washington DC police are hunting a gang of kidnappers who say they kidnapped five people within four days, forced them to hand over their bank cards and details, and visit multiple ATMs to clear their accounts before finally letting them go.

The city’s Metropolitan Police Department said they are looking for three to four suspects, two of which were captured on ATM CCTV footage shared on the department’s social media pages.

Crime Solvers of Washington DC is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that leads police to their suspects, whose identities have been evaded by police for three days since the most recent armed kidnapping.

Police said the gang kidnapped four people in five days from the locations pictured above, took them to nearby ATMs and forced them to withdraw cash.

Kidnapping Timeline

August 24, 10:30 PM: First victim was forced into the group’s car to… 1300 block from Corcoran Street Northwest and then drove to an ATM where he had to withdraw his money.

August 25, 11 p.m.: Second victim kidnapped at 5200 block of 14th Street and forced to reveal his bank account details, which they then used to withdraw money, before letting him out of the car.

August 26, 1:14 a.m.: The third victim was assaulted and forced into the vehicle at gunpoint at the intersection of 14th Street and Allison Street. They stole his belongings and bank details and drove him to ATMs before finally letting him go.

August 28, 2:20 a.m.: Fourth victim from 1200 block of 10th Street Northwest, got their bank details, took their money from multiple ATMs.

August 28, 3:45 a.m.: Fifth victim kidnapped from 500 block of 13th Street, Northeast, driven to ATMs before being released.

Police say the suspects are four black men between the ages of 20 and 29. One, they said, wore a curly high-top fade haircut.

Washington’s MPD could not be reached for updates at press time.

The first incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when a suspect threatened a victim with a gun in the 1300 block of Corcoran Street Northwest, while several others forced the victim into a vehicle.

Police said the suspects drove to a nearby ATM, where they took the victim’s bank cards and withdraw cash.

The next day, August 25, another victim was frightened with a gun and pushed into a car by the group around 11 p.m. at 5200 block of 14th Street Northwest.

This time, the men shook their victim for their bank account details, which they then used to withdraw money from their bank accounts before letting them out of the car.

At about 1:14 a.m. Thursday, the group brandished multiple pistols and approached a third victim at the intersection of 14th and Allison Street, Northwest. The group attacked their victim as he tried to flee and forced him into a car.

The perpetrators extracted their victim’s property and banking information – then hit multiple ATMs and used his information to withdraw money. Only then did they release their victim at a second, unspecified location.

After taking a day off from their kidnapping bout, the group of men doubled and abducted two people on Saturday, police said.

The first incident, the police reported in a press release on Sunday, took place around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday.  One of the suspects threatened a victim with a gun in 1300 block of Corcoran Street Northwest, while several others forced the victim into a vehicle. Police said it was about 2:20 a.m. The men flashed firearms in the 1200 block of 10th Street, Northwest. They forced a victim into their car, got their bank details, took their money from multiple ATMs and left the victim in a different location.

Later that morning, around 3:45 a.m., another victim was forced into the group’s car at gunpoint on the 500 block of 13th Street, Northeast. Again they drove to an ATM, withdrew money from their victim’s accounts and released him at another location.
