Housing in popular rural and coastal areas has been in short supply in recent years, but the trend is now changing, new data suggests.

Zoopla said the supply of homes for sale on its website increased by 20 per cent last year, meaning buyers are enjoying the highest level of spring home choice in five years.

And specific areas are seeing an extraordinary increase in supply, with the South West leading the way, as agents report there are 2.5 times as many homes for sale compared to a year ago.

The property’s website identified other supply hotspots including Cornwall, Devon, Wales and the East Midlands.

Sam Turner, of Cornwall estate agency Kivells, said: “The spring market has definitely emerged as we are seeing increased levels of activity across the county.”

‘There has been a huge increase in new properties coming onto the market, which is giving buyers more choice.

“This also helps the moving process for our suppliers as they have more choice in their subsequent purchases.”
