Gone are the years of limited choice when it comes to electric vehicles – 100 different models of electric cars were seen on British roads this year.

And one of them was the UK’s cheapest new EV, the Dacia Spring which cost £14,495 new.

So, with a new year quickly approaching, what new affordable electric vehicles are on the horizon that will be especially attractive to young drivers? And will any of them be as cheap as the Spring?

Here are five purse-friendly EVs to keep an eye out for.

If you can’t wait until 2026 for a stylish urban EV, then you might want to consider the new Cupra Raval.

Cupra’s USP is its racing pedigree, but the Raval is moving from the sporting world into the sustainability game with recycled polymers and bio-based materials to become an “environmentally conscious vehicle.”

Pricing for the 5 hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s expected to start from a much cheaper £23,000. For this you’ll get a 255 mile range, 148 horsepower, and great looks.

Reviews have already been fantastic for the reinvented 5, and it’s likely to be as popular as the resurrected Fiat 500 and new Minis.

5. Fiat Panda – from under £22,000

It looks like 2025 will be the year of reincarnation, as the Fiat Panda marks another retired model returning in electric form.

The upcoming fourth-generation Fiat Panda is a new hatchback that builds on the popularity of the old Panda and will have 199 miles of range and a very affordable price.

Exact pricing is yet to be confirmed, but estimates are that it will likely match its Citroen e-C3 sibling’s £21,990.

The block-shaped supermini, in 4×4 guise, will have a 44kW battery and produce 111bhp, offering “comfortable family living and contemporary urban mobility”.

After the Grande Panda, Fiat will add a new member to the Panda family every year until 2027.
