Raymundo & # 39; Ray & # 39; Diaz, 33, was arrested Friday for assault
An Instagram star who gained fame for fitness videos was arrested and charged with assault after his social media messages checked the police.
Raymundo & # 39; Ray & # 39; Diaz, 33, was arrested early Friday in San Diego and charged with assault in Los Angeles following an investigation by the Special Assault Section of the LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division.
Rumors of impropriety had been swung around the fitness fan, who falsely claimed to be in the late 20s, since last year, when he kissed an Instagram video of himself a teenage model who said she was 16 at the time.
The age of consent in California is 18.
Business got underway last week when the teenager, now 17, ran away from home, and her mother placed desperate calls online for her return, and accused Diaz of abuse and involvement in the girl's disappearance.
Diaz (shown last year in a fashion show) is said to have started dating a 16-year-old last year. Matters became more acute when the girl left home last week
A horrible video clip posted by the girl's mother appears to be a secret audio recording of Diaz screaming and swearing at the teen in a car as they sob.
Although she was still missing, she went to social media to claim that the audio clip issued by her mother was a vote – a claim she later recalled and said that Diaz had pressured her to make.
The police went looking for the missing girl and did a thorough investigation of Diaz's house, but did not find her.
As the online criticism grew, Diaz posted a video in which he defended himself and said he had nothing to do with the teenager's disappearance and claimed that the police had emptied him.
Diaz (left and right) defended himself in a video in which he said that he was not romantically involved with the girl and that a police investigation had evacuated him. But the teenager later claimed that she was hiding in a hole in his box springs, even when the police searched his house
But days later, after she had returned safely to her mother's house, the teenager said that she had indeed been with Diaz when she walked away.
She claimed in an emotional interview that Diaz had hidden her in a hastily cut hole in his box springs, under his mattress, when the police searched his house.
& # 39; I was just like squished and I really didn't have to make a noise, and I heard the police come looking for me, and they obviously couldn't find me, & # 39; the girl said DramaAlert, a YouTube news channel about social media influencers.
Shortly after the interview was published, the LAPD announced that it was investigating the claims without mentioning Diaz.
& # 39; The LAPD is aware of various social media messages regarding a social media personality, claims physical violence and sexual relations with a minor, & # 39; the department said late on Thursday.
& # 39; We take these allegations seriously. Currently, the department has led a group of investigators to investigate these allegations, & the statement continues.
Diaz was arrested in San Diego on Friday at around 5 a.m. and returned to Los Angeles for booking.
Booking records show that it is owned by the LAPD Prison Department instead of a $ 500,000 bond.
The Diaz Instagram account, which has 3.1 million followers, is set to be private. It was unclear whether he had a lawyer to speak on his behalf.
"I hope and pray that something happens here, that he is put away because I don't want this to happen to another girl," said the victim of the teenager in the interview prior to Diaz's arrest.
& # 39; I was so manipulated and brainwashed, I don't want this to happen to another girl. & # 39;
