A fitness expert has criticized Zac Efron’s workout and diet routine, calling several of his signature moves “a waste of time.”

Podcast host Dr. Mike Israetel, a professor of exercise and sports science at Leman College in New York City, posted a video in March examining Efron’s routine that has fueled him for films like Baywatch and The Iron Claw.

In the video, which has more than 1.1 million views, Dr. Israel praised Efron’s physique as “slender” and said the star was “in great shape.”

“Most of what’s here is pretty good,” he added.

However, he criticized the trainer Efron worked with for his 2017 film Baywatch, Patrick Murphy, who has worked with the likes of Keanu Reeves, Aubrey Plaza and Cameron Diaz, for giving the High School Musical alum shoulder exercises that “don’t they do almost nothing.”

Additionally, she criticized the 36-year-old actor for claiming that he only eats organic foods and suggesting that all processed foods are unhealthy.

Dr. Israetel’s video was a reaction to an interview Efron did with Men’s Health, in which the actor said he worked harder for his role in the Baywatch remake.

Watching a clip from the film, Dr. Israeletel said: “First of all, he’s in shape. He’s slim. You can see some of the serratus muscles, the ribs separated. You’re in very good shape.”

The serratus anterior is a fan-shaped muscle that attaches the shoulder blade to the rib cage.

‘Another trick to see who is thin or not, his face is very sunken, not much fat face. “This is already very good because when you’re thin, I think some things you do have to work,” Dr. Israetel said.

In the original interview, Coach Murphy claims that he gave Efron “one of the most dynamic programs I’ve ever created” to “get him in the best shape of my life.”

He said: “When I had to get Zac in the best shape of his life, I decided to introduce super setup workouts, and what that entailed was two exercises back to back without a break.”

‘This created an elevated heart rate, which maximized calorie burning. This created muscle efficiency, high muscle endurance and I created an unstoppable machine.

Dr. Israetel admitted that while the super fit “is a good idea” that “burns a lot of calories and makes the person sweat and get really excited about the exercise,” he criticized the use of several of the specific movements.

These included external rotations, which involve bending the elbow at a 90-degree angle so that the hand moves away from the body.

“External rotations do almost nothing,” he said. “Unless you have some kind of shoulder problem, you can start warming up for whatever exercise you’re doing that day first.”

He also noted that this move should be reserved for people with previous shoulder problems or other similar problems, otherwise “it’s a damn waste of time.”

Another move involved standing on one leg and performing lateral raises, raising your arms forward in front of you while holding dumbbells.

“That’s fucking stupid unless you have fragile ankles and can’t move them and need stabilization training, which is not the case for almost anyone,” Dr. Israetel said.

He added: ‘Standing on one leg and doing lateral raises only reduces activation of the lateral deltoids because stability is the number one promoter of muscle activation.

‘As soon as you move a certain amount of stability, a certain amount of muscle activation decreases and usually it is the largest and most growth-prone parts of the muscle that lose activation.

‘So this nonsense about being on one leg is exactly that: nonsense. Otherwise, this technique on lateral raises is fine.’

Dr. Israetel’s video also examined Efron’s diet, which the actor said includes “intermittent fasting combined with enough nutrition to sustain me throughout the day.”

The expert noted that while this “works well,” he would recommend eating three to five protein-rich meals throughout the day, as protein is essential for muscle growth and repair.

Her main dietary criticism was Efron saying that he avoids processed foods and only eats organic products.

In addition to calling organic a “meaningless term” that “means nothing at all,” Dr. Israetel argued that several healthy foods have some degree of processing, including whey protein and casein, which are popular among foodies. fitness.

He said: ‘These are incredibly good for you and all those little herbs and mushrooms that you take in pill form, that’s great for you too, but they’re incredibly processed.

“Most of the time, eating minimally processed foods is a good idea, but that’s not always the case, and it sure has nothing to do with organic, which is a waste of money and bullshit.” * scam.’
