Supreme’s upcoming crossover with South2 West8, a Japanese fly fishing-inspired technical streetwear label, has rubbed some fans of the sport in the wrong direction, Input may reports.
The streetwear giant’s collaboration with the Nepenthes brand includes jackets, pants, vests and fleeces, as well as a rod used for the traditional Japanese fly fishing technique Tankara.
“It’s a cultural and marketing grab that seems incredibly unfair,” fisherman and designer Stefan Ayon told the platform. Meanwhile, users on Reddit’s fly fishing forum joked that the collaboration’s co-branded Japanese fishing rod wouldn’t be used to catch a single fish or even come into contact with water.
