He is used to dancing on the floor and having all eyes on him while judging.

And so Anton Du Beke was in his element when he made his debonair panto debut on Friday as Buttons in Cinderella, on the stage of The Richmond Theater.

The Strictly Come Dancing judge, 55, beamed with delight as he hit the stage in his plush blue and white costume.

Anton’s outfit consisted of blue shorts and an intricately designed vest, worn with a white shirt and matching tights

In true Strictly style, the dancer also took the stage in a black tuxedo for a special appearance during the show.

Anton appeared on Steph’s Packed Lunch show in late November and discussed his nerves before taking on the acting role.

He said, ‘I mean yeah, it’s really one of those funny things. It’s panto, but it’s a show, it’s a real game with music and dance, it’s real.

“It’s very important that because there are jokes written in it and there are lines to other actors, so it’s all very good to have fun with it, but it’s a serious script.

“It’s serious business and you have really great actors in the room doing their part so you can’t screw up.”

After theaters were hit particularly hard by Covid-19 safety regulations, Anton insisted: “I think this is sort of a gateway to theatre, especially for next year.

“People come to the theater with families and it will fill up. It’s going to give people the confidence to go to the theater next year.

“So I’m excited for theater next year and I really think this pantomime season will be the gateway to the new year and a new era. A new dawn for theatre.’

In October, Anton told PA about balancing panto rehearsals with Strictly: ‘I enjoy every second of it because I’m doing all my best things, I’m on stage and I’m doing Strictly Come Dancing, those are my favorite things in the world.

“I feel like the luckiest man in the world and my kids come to see me in panto, my heavens up there, it’s the best in the world, merry Christmas to me.”

The professional dancer revealed that fellow Strictly Judge Craig Revel Horwood, who starred in a series of pantomimes, offered him tips, saying, “Big is better, big is best, big is brilliant.”

Anton added: “He’s a bit of a pantomime villain on Strictly anyway, so I’ll take that on, but my role as Buttons is a bit different from that one, so I’ll be myself.”
