First black Bond girl Gloria Hendry seen 50 years after romp with Roger Moore

Date:

Former Bond girl Gloria Hendry still looks as glamorous as she did 50 years ago when she had her big break in Live and Let Die.

DailyMail.com saw Hendry running errands in Beverly Hills on Wednesday looking trendy as always in a red and yellow leather jacket, leggings, multicolored shoes and stylish shades.

At one point, the actress collected mail from a post office and single-handedly carried a large box to her car.

Hendry, who celebrates her 74th birthday today, has kept a relatively low profile in Hollywood since she became 007’s first black love interest opposite Roger Moore in 1973.

The Florida-born model turned actress played the role of Rosie Carver, who is famously shot and killed in Bond’s arms.

Her steamy scenes with Roger Moore catapulted her into the spotlight, and the Ian Fleming classic featured a soundtrack written by Paul McCartney.

In his memoirs, Moore described how the passion between him and Hendry was a sore point for his wife Luisa Mattioli at the time.

He wrote: ‘As Bond I make love to Rosie Carver, played by the beautiful black actress Gloria Hendry, and my wife Luisa has learned from certain Louisiana ladies that if there is such a scene, they will not go to the movies . .

“I personally don’t care, and it makes me all the more determined to play the scene.”

Moore and Hendry’s love scene was cut from the film when it was shown in apartheid South Africa, where interracial relationships were banned.

In 2015, Hendry and other former black Bond girls were honored at the African American Film Critics Association’s Black Women of Bond tribute.

Reminiscing about her days as a Bond girl, she told Ebony Magazine at the event, “I had a penthouse hotel room in London at the Pinewood Studios. I was treated like I thought I was in the movie, (like) I was playing Bond! They made all my clothes. It was amazing!’
