Fireman Sam star David Carling has tragically died aged 55.
The actor, who played Station Officer Steele on the iconic series since 2008, died on December 10. No cause of death has been provided.
A source confirmed to the sun: ‘David died earlier this month. It is terrible and very sad news for everyone who knew him. “He was lovely to work with and a true professional.”
In addition to Officer Steele, David also played Fire Chief Boyce and Trevor Evans on the show, as well as acting in other animations such as Bin Weevils and Snow White: The Sequel.
Following the news, tributes poured in for the “wonderfully talented” actor, while former colleagues launched a fundraiser in his memory, which has now surpassed its £250 target and reached £1,347.
His JustGiving profile reads: ‘We are very sad to hear of the loss of one of Soho’s great broadcasters, David Carling. “Those who have had the pleasure of working with and knowing David will agree that he would light up a room with his smile and wonderful sense of humor.”

David’s agency, Just Voices, said in a tribute: “We are devastated to announce the tragic news that the wonderful David Carling passed away last Tuesday. He was a much-loved father, husband, friend, actor and broadcaster and all who loved him “They knew and worked with him and they will miss him greatly.”

More recently, Fireman Sam, who counts the likes of Prince George among his legion of fans, has been joined by a marine biologist with a prosthetic leg who will highlight ecological issues.
New character Jodie Phillips will encourage young viewers to take care of the ocean and stay safe on the beach in the 13th season of the animated television show.
Show creators Mattel Television and WildBrain said: “This season is very different with new characters, animals and vehicles and, for the first time, a strong message of sustainability for little ones.”

Firefighter Sam has entertained children (and promoted a fire safety message) for 34 years and the show’s YouTube channel has had more than 9.6 billion views worldwide.
