BAGUIO CITY — A fire tore through a residential area along Honeymoon Road in this city early Sunday, August 27, leaving at least 15 people homeless.

The fire, which originated in a bakery, was reported to authorities at 12:50 a.m. and declared under control about an hour later.

The source of the fire was a candle left unattended, Captain of the Barangay Romulo Wayway confirmed to Mayor Benjamin Magalong in a report.

Wayway also said the candle, originally lit to remember a deceased family member, could have ignited a tablecloth while the family slept.

The driver of a passing car noticed the fire and sounded the horn to alert them.

Authorities said the displaced people had received food, hygiene items and sleeping kits.

Victims were also to receive financial assistance and housing. INQ
