A fire broke out under a bridge in Sydney’s Wentworth Park early this morning.

Fire crews were called to the bridge near Glebe in the city’s Inner West at 6.40am on Monday after receiving a triple zero call.

A dozen firefighters managed to quickly extinguish the flames shortly before seven in the morning.

Daily Mail Australia understands there is a homeless encampment under the bridge.

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said sleeping equipment and personal belongings belonging to the homeless community were found at the scene.

Trams entering and leaving the Inner West on the L2 line from Dulwich Hill to Pyrmont were temporarily halted while firefighters tackled the blaze.

A New South Wales Police spokesman said the fire was not being treated as suspicious.

“At approximately 6:45am today (Monday 2 September 2024), emergency services were called to Sydney’s Inner West following reports of a fire,” police said in a statement.

‘Officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command attended Wentworth Park, Glebe, and found belongings on fire in the park.
