A popular financial guru did a kind gesture to a homeless woman by offering to match her with a financial advisor after she confessed she had fallen into debt.
The woman named Marie recently called into a recent episode of The Ramsey Show, a nationally syndicated financial-themed radio show, when Dave Ramsey gave her advice to help her get back on her feet.
Marie explained to Ramsey how she works as a licensed occupational therapist and earns $87,000 a year, but has found herself living in hotels, struggling to regain financial stability after a series of emotional and financial setbacks.
‘I currently live in hotels. “I can’t seem to find an apartment,” she shared with Ramsey.
Marie explained how despite her stable income, a poor credit score has limited her housing options and then explained how she moved from one state to another for love and a relationship that ultimately fell apart.
It left her with no immediate accommodation and only the option of short stays in hotels that cost $2,200 a month.
Marie explained how her financial challenges extend beyond housing.
“I have a car payment, about $340 a month, and my student loan debt, which is $1,000 a month,” he explained.
Popular financial guru Dave Ramsey made a kind gesture towards a homeless woman who had fallen into debt after suffering a broken heart.
Despite her income, Marie’s spending habits have only increased her struggles.
‘You paid a payment of $300. You win $87,000 and pay a hotel bill. That’s all you’ve done,” Ramsey said. ‘Where’s all your money going, kid?’
Marie’s response was blunt, but honest. “Eating out… I only have a microwave here, so I can’t cook,” he admitted.
But financial expert Ramsey seems to have seen it all when he spoke to Marie empathetically and pointed out how, despite her situation, the numbers told a deeper story.
“You are a very educated and very intelligent lady whose heart was destroyed,” he told her.
‘The numbers don’t tell me anything else because you are too smart to be in this situation if you were functioning at a normal level. And right now you’re running with a broken heart.
‘You’re not a bad person. You are not a weak person. You just got stepped on and you’re suffering. And it messes up your math. And you’ve been in a spiral, in an emotional sense, and everything is out of control.’
There was silence on the line as Marie burst into tears. Ramsey’s financial diagnosis seemed to have been spot on.
Marie explained how she had resorted to living in hotels despite earning a salary of $87,000.
You have a lot of money to rent an apartment. Many places will rent an apartment to someone with bad credit. “You just made a nice deposit,” Ramsey explained.
Ramsey offered Marie a ray of hope and promised to connect her with a Ramsey-trained financial advisor, free of charge, to help her rebuild her finances and regain stability.
‘Let’s take them back to sustainability. You are suffering and you need someone to hug you. And we are the people who are going to do it. And then I will also have that person recommend connecting to a good local church.
“You need some human beings in your life because you’re wandering around all alone,” Ramsey said.
Viewers who commented sympathized with Marie’s situation.
“I heard $87,000 and instantly knew it was an emotional issue,” one wrote.
“Emotional spending is a real thing.” said another.
“However, something doesn’t add up to his spending,” said a third.
“Oh I can hear the pain in his voice,” a fourth wrote.
