A blonde FIFO employee and up-and-coming Tik Tok sensation has put the lid on what it’s like to work in a male-dominated industry.
Celeste Baker is one of the few single women on a fly-in-fly-out roster at a mine in the Great Sandy Desert in Western Australia.
The 28-year-old, who works 12 hours a day for fourteen days before taking a two-week break, said she enjoys her cleaning job, but admitted that working in an environment full of testosterone presents challenges.

‘Working in an environment where there are a lot of men, it’s a different culture, I don’t think many people understand’, she said Perth now.
Ms. Baker said she had experienced sexual advances and innuendo – while a joke on the spot falsely linked her to a married employee.
‘There was a joke recently. In guys, things are taken sexually all the time when there’s nothing sexual about it at all, ” she said.
A co-worker once had to be transferred to another location when he came to her and contacted her late at night.
Ms. Baker added that FIFO employees who date in the workplace are labeled as ‘easy’ by their colleagues
Despite trying to nurture relationships, Ms. Baker said the distance and time apart turn out to be too much.
“ You have huge differences between seeing the person, which makes it difficult, and generally they have normal jobs, so you can only have weekends, ” she said.
She added that FIFO workers who date in the workplace are labeled as “ easy ” by their peers.

But she added that the positives outweigh the negatives, and that she sees her current role as a springboard for her career.
