Formula One star Fernando Alonso is giving fans some very sad news about his love life just hours after he finished third at the Australian Grand Prix.
- He came third at Albert Park with an Aston Martin
- The declaration of love made life soon after
- He also had a cheeky dig at Red Bull
F1 driver Fernando Alonso delighted his fans by finishing third at the Australian Grand Prix – but followed it up by announcing his split from long-term partner Andrea Schlager.
Alonso shared the news on his Instagram Story with a photo of him and Schlager, along with a caption that read, “We wanted to tell you that our relationship as a couple is over.”
We were fortunate enough to share a wonderful time together, and it will always be, but on a different form of affection.
As you’ve likely seen, we’ve continued to work on and off track on various projects together as well during this time, and we will continue to do so with deep love and respect for one another.
We thought it appropriate to share this because you have all been so supportive. Thanks for that. I love Veer and Andrea.
Alonso and Schlager had a happy few days before their split, which was announced after Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix
The message, which Alonso posted to his Instagram Stories letting fans know the couple has called it a day
The couple also thanked their fans for their support and noted that they will continue to work together on various projects with love and respect for each other.
A sports commentator with a history on the F1 circuit, Schlager met the Spanish racing driver through her F1 commitments. Very little is known about their relationship, which has mostly been kept out of the public eye.
Alonso is a two-time Formula One World Champion, winning the campaign in both 2005 and 2006. He has had a range of relationships, having previously been married to Raquel Del Rosario and engaged to Lara Alvarez.
Alonso was also previously in relationships with Carolina Costa, Dasha Capustina, and most recently, Linda Morceli.
Despite his past relationships, Alonso does not have any children. In 2018, he stated that his dedication to the sport left him with no friends, no family, no spare time, no privacy, no wife, and no children.
Alonso preferred to keep his love life out of the spotlight, but decided to tell his fans that his relationship was over.
Alonso celebrates coming third at the Australian Grand Prix with Aston Martin after a fierce battle with Lewis Hamilton – but the weekend wasn’t all good news for the Spaniard
During the Australian Grand Prix, Alonso finished in third place, and spent the majority of the race trying to chase Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.
A tangle with Carlos Sainz appeared to end his race, but he was given a reprieve when the FIA red-flagged the race again.
Alonso’s performance in Australia was noteworthy because for the first time in 2023, a car other than a Red Bull finished in front of him, with Hamilton second.
Alonso took the opportunity to make a tongue-in-cheek joke at Sergio Perez’s expense while assessing Melbourne’s top-of-the-line car selection rankings.
Perez had joked in Bahrain that he, Max Verstappen, and Fernando Alonso are “all Red Bull drivers” and that “it was great to see three Red Bulls on the podium!”
Alonso responded by saying, “No more three Red Bulls on the podium, if Chico is here”.
