Fernando Alonso has issued a stern warning to Max Verstappen over his X-rated language as the Red Bull ace continues to become increasingly agitated by the team’s struggles.
The reigning world champion was recently reprimanded ahead of the Singapore GP for using profanity during a televised press conference when asked about his qualifying performance in the previous race.
Verstappen received a punishment from the FIA equivalent to the sport’s version of community service that is expected to serve as a deterrent against other future outbursts.
Most drivers have supported Verstappen over the incident and those in the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA) WhatsApp group believe the penalty is draconian and urged the Dutchman not to serve his public service punishment.
However, Alonso has now broken ranks by going against his fellow drivers and issued a warning to Verstappen for his language.

Alonso has had a mixed season at Aston Martin, but his opinion will carry weight as the most experienced driver on the grid.
Warning Verstappen, Alonso said: “The fans give us a great responsibility because we are role models for many people.” So we have to behave well.
‘You have to be prepared to be a role model when you want to and also when you don’t want to.
‘When you want to say something that is not correct, you have to control yourself, stop and be politically correct.
‘At this level, you realize that a lot of people admire us. “If you’re a driver or someone in a public capacity, you just have to behave.”
Profanity is often edited out during race broadcasts as drivers express frustration over mid-race problems and many have defended Verstappen’s latest outburst.
The three-time world champion remains at the top of the drivers’ championship standings, but has not won since the Spanish GP and his lead over Lando Norris has been reduced to just 52 points with six races remaining.

While understanding the fierce competitiveness of the sport, Alonso went on to explain that drivers have certain standards they must maintain both on and off the track.
And he added: “The fans have to believe in you. They tell you, ‘You are my inspiration, you never give up, you are a fighter.’
“This reminds us that there are many fans in the world who follow Formula One and we must always keep this in mind.
“The fans give you a lot of love and motivation, but with that comes responsibility.”
