Twitch music director Cindy Charles died in the Netherlands in a car accident at the age of 69.
Charles, who died Monday, played a major role in Twitch’s recent deal for DJs from all three major labels: Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment.
Police say the California native, who lives in Berkeley, was hit by a garbage truck while walking in Amsterdam.
The streaming platform’s CEO, Daniel Clancy, confirmed his death on Friday on LinkedIn.
Clancy said that “anyone who uses music on Twitch owes a debt of gratitude to Cindy’s work.”

Charles worked closely with music icon Charli XCX for this event in upstate New York on October 10. The British singer’s latest album, Brat, was a summer sensation.
“He always had a bright smile on his face, even while negotiating record-breaking music licensing deals for Twitch, including the recent DJ deal.”
The deal established Twitch as the first platform for JDs to livestream legally, as reported by Variety.
Charles was due to speak at the Amsterdam Dance Event on Thursday in the Dutch capital.
An ADE spokesperson said in a statement: “Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.
“She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, colleagues and the global music industry.”

Charles was due to speak at the Amsterdam Dance Event on Thursday in the Dutch capital before his tragic death on Monday.
Earlier this month, he led the team that livestreamed Charlie XCX’s album preview at Storm King in upstate New York.
Charles had been at Twitch since 2018 and was promoted to head of music in April 2022.
She previously worked as head of business development at Amazon Tickets and Amazon’s Video Shorts.
Charles is survived by her husband Ricky Fishman, stepson Sam Fishman and son Ben Charles.
