Terrifying footage shows the moment a motorist killed a young woman in a fatal crash after speeding through a red light while using her phone.

Molly Mycroft, 21, was driving her Seat Ibiza when she collided with a BMW on Wheatley Hall Road in Doncaster on August 2, 2022.

Passenger Sarah Oliver, 20, died in the crash and two others were seriously injured.

Mycroft pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and seriously injuring two other people. Today she has been jailed for nine years and disqualified from driving for 16 years at Sheffield Crown Court.

The court heard Mycroft had been driving at 78mph in a 40mph zone and ignored the traffic light which had been red for six seconds.

Footage obtained by South Yorkshire Police also showed Mycroft on his mobile phone laughing and joking as music played loudly in the car before the fatal collision.

Oliver’s family said in a statement after the case: “Every day we miss Sarah, our daughter, granddaughter, sister and very dear friend.”

“She was a beautiful young woman who had her whole life ahead of her.

‘Sarah had the ability to light up a room. She loved spending time with her family and she hoped to travel and become godmother to her best friend’s baby this summer.

‘He died six days before his 21st birthday and, although we should have been planning celebrations, we were planning a funeral instead; His life and ours were taken from us by selfish actions.

“No family should have to go through what we have endured.”

Sergeant John Taylor, of South Yorkshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigations Unit, said: “This is a tragic case.

‘Mycroft’s actions showed no regard for the safety of others and resulted in the death of Sarah and two other drivers who suffered serious injuries.’

“We know that Mycroft was using his mobile phone while driving and was speeding at the time of the collision.

“I urge people to consider the consequences of these actions.”
