Former professional bodybuilder and Digital Muscle editor Shawn Ray said, “Recently, Joanna had indicated that after years of inactivity, she was restoring her body to a reasonable level and wearing extra bodybuilding.

The sport of Bodybuilding has really lost one of its hardcore Iron Game members and she will be very much missed

On behalf of Digital Muscle, Mr. Olympia Staff, IFBB Pro League and the entire Bodybuilding Community, we express our sincere condolences to the family. ”

One of three siblings, Mrs. Thomas, was born in Truro and earned her Pro Card to participate in bodybuilding at age 21 after moving to Florida to continue her career.

Her cause of death remains unknown, but Mrs. Thomas last year appealed to fans to help as she struggled with her health.

She revealed that bodybuilding took a toll on her mental and physical health and wrote: ‘I achieved numerous competition successes, including a 1st in the Jan Tana Classic 2001 and twice in the Ms Olympia in 2001 and 2004, with the seventh being my best position was now.

‘The professional bodybuilding career is not always long, but I was lucky enough to compete at a high level for ten years.

“Building the body I had took a lot of hard work and dedication. It was rewarding, but also punishing, both physically and mentally.

She revealed that she was struggling to walk after an early-onset osteoarthritis diagnosis and that she called on funds to buy a car and fund dietary supplements that she thought would help her undergo knee surgery for to stay.

The once-champion bodybuilder launched a GoFundMe page, saying the condition had a “ catastrophic impact on my mobility. ”
