A British tourist suffering from Alzheimer’s disease has disappeared while on holiday in Barcelona, sparking a frantic search by worried family and police.

David Moore, 65, is on vacation with his wife Christine, 60, and his two friends Donna McCarron-Flynn, 55, and Mark Flynn, 56.

But David got out of bed and walked out of the hotel on his own at 4.30am on Sunday – and has not been seen since.

This trip is David and Christine’s “last vacation” together after David was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2023, his friends say — the same year his son died.

Friends have been searching the streets “non-stop” since severely disabled David, from Edinburgh, was spotted walking towards the harbor by hotel staff.

In the UK, his relatives have called taxi companies to find him and Donna and Mark are meeting with the police and consulate today.

Friends have printed hundreds of leaflets, distribute them and stick them on lamp posts.

Donna, a church pastor in Edinburgh, Scotland, said: “David was unhappy and confused. He kept saying he wanted to take the bus home. He seems obsessed with getting on the bus and forgetting he was in another country.

“He’s 6 feet 2 inches tall, he wiggles his feet when he walks and hunches his shoulders. He uses his hands to hold on to buildings when he walks down the street.

“When he walks, David sways a lot because he loses his balance – he walks like he’s drunk.”

The group traveled to Barcelona on April 2, with Donna and Mark acting in a caring or chaperone role for their friends.

David was spotted leaving the hotel wearing a thin navy zipped jacket, jeans and gray trainers.

On April 7 at 7:15 a.m., Donna and Mark woke up to a phone call from Christine who had woken up to find the hotel room door open and David missing.

Donna said: “My husband ran out of the hotel looking for him and looked for him for a few hours. We checked the hospital – we hope he was taken to the hospital. We are near the marina and he headed in that direction.

“We went through the streets and doorways, handed out leaflets and walked along the beach talking to everyone. We printed hundreds of A4 leaflets, displayed them on lamp posts and handed them out to taxi drivers.

“Christine is crushed, she’s absolutely terrified, she’s numb and unable to understand anything at the moment.”

The British consulate and police have been contacted for comment.
