FDNY Chief Laura Kavanagh slammed her force in an apology to the New York State Attorney General after pro-Donald Trump firefighters booed her.
Attorney General Letitia James spoke at a promotion ceremony for the department on March 7 but was mercilessly booed by pro-Trump firefighters and other attendees.
The next day, Kavanagh texted James to apologize, according to messages. seen by the New York Post.
She wrote: “I should have called you last night, but I’ve been trying to find a way to say I’m sorry that doesn’t involve apologizing to men who don’t deserve such grace.”
Kavanagh said she wishes she could “fix” the behavior of the FDNY’s predominantly male workforce, but doesn’t know how.

James spoke at the March 7 ceremony, but was quickly overshadowed by boos from the audience.
The boos then turned into pro-Trump chants.
His appearance at the ceremony came just weeks after James’ office won a $454 million civil fraud judgment against Trump.
The next day, Kavanagh sent James a message to apologize and express his support.
She told him: “I haven’t made it. I’m sorry I didn’t stop them and couldn’t fix them.”
He went on to thank James for teaching him that “bullying, threats and a lot of graceful heckling would be part of the job if you ever wanted to make a big change.”
‘So thank you for that. I care about you and I’ll do anything for you, always,’ she added.
James spoke at the March 7 ceremony, but was quickly drowned out by boos from the audience.
James thanked her for the message but denied that she had ever been booed.
She said, ‘The guys that were there are new to the department and don’t know my history when it comes to the FDNY.’
“We have work to do and I am willing to put in the time. By the way, it’s the first time they’ve booed me.”
James has promised to seize Trump’s assets if he does not pay the huge settlement, which increases by $87,502 each day until he pays up.
FDNY spokesman Jim Long told the Post that Kavanagh’s text messages to James “reflect his deep disappointment and frustration with the actions of a few bad actors, who may or may not have been active FDNY employees.”
